We built a cloud infrastructure on top of the existing Online Directory that watches every possible podcast our users have subscribed to. Once a new episode is available, it sends a notification to your iPad. Once you tap the notification, Instacast will be started and the new episode gets downloaded immediately.

Watching over 30000 podcasts can be a resource intensive task that could possibly lead to delays, but not with Instacast. It is using the combined power of all users. If the cloud infrastucture is not able to find a new podcast episode in time and a client device beats it to the task, the client automatically notifies the cloud, the respective podcast is scanned immediatly and all other users are notified instantly.
